Cicely’s treatment approach is to create a safe space for BIPOC clients by providing a decolonizing therapy experience.
Decolonizing Therapy Experience Defined
Reclaim. Redefine.
We consider how one's family, environment, culture, social conditioning, and unjust systems in place effect one's mental health. We believe mental health is just one source of achieving optimal healing; therefore, we incorporate physical, financial, spiritual and occupational health in therapy.
Reduce Stigma
We heal the root, not symptom. Over-medication and misdiagnosis has traditionally been a weapon towards BIPOC communities, so we will not recommend medication treatment unless absolutely necessary.
Disrupt.
We disrupt biased mental health infrastructure and oversight by not accepting insurances, placing less emphasis on diagnosis, and re-framing the purposes and value of therapy. We limit how much we reference old schools of thought, which were mostly established by white cis men and racist based research.
Access. Collaboration. Sustainability.
We are solution focused and create a dynamic of collaboration instead of authority, and aim to re-define accessible care. Our services are indefinitely virtual to sustain accessibility, provide flexibility for our staff, and safeguard against pandemics.
With our beliefs and practices, we will de-stigmatize and decolonize therapy so that more BIPOC identifying people seek mental health care — furthering healing generational trauma, igniting generational health and wealth, and achieving liberation.
